Endovascular Surgery: What to Expect Traditional open surgery involves making a large incision on the chest and placing you on a heart-lung bypass machine. During an endovascular procedure, we avoid a large chest incision. Instead, we use small incisions, often using the artery near your groin as an access point.
The bulge is caused by a weak section in the artery wall. Endovascular stent surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses advanced technology and instrumentation to treat such disorders of the circulatory system as blockage or damage to blood vessels caused by the build up of plaque (fatty deposits, calcium deposits, and scar tissue) in the arteries, a condition called atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Endovascular surgery is performed inside your aorta using thin, long tubes called catheters to place a stent surrounded with a fabric liner to reinforce the weak spots. You may be eligible for endovascular stent grafting if your aneurysm has not ruptured and the aneurysm is 5 centimeters or more in size. Why is endovascular grafting performed? Endovascular embolization (EE) is an invasive surgical procedure.

When used to treat thoracic aortic disease, the procedure is then specifically termed TEVAR for "thoracic endovascular aortic/aneurysm repair." The procedure involves the placement of an expandable stent graft within the aorta to treat aortic disease without operating directly on the aorta. In 2003, EVAR surpassed open Table of contents for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 55, 4, May 01, 2021 2020-12-14 · The European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery is aimed primarily at vascular surgeons dealing with patients with arterial, venous and lymphatic diseases.
In the cases of apparent complete endovascular occlusion with no surgery, it occasionally happens that in successive angiographic controls, which can be performed after 3, 6, or 9 months—or even later—pathologic vessels and draining veins reappear. 44 This is controversial, because endovascular surgeons consider complete and definitive occlusion to be achievable, especially in small AVMs
